Personal Paint best 2D paint package on the Amiga

Amiga do not lack competent graphics programs, Deluxe Paint, Photon Paint and TV Paint probably rings a bell. Once upon a time in the computer world Amiga was the leading graphics workstation if you did not mind forking out 6000 US dollars for a color Macintosh system or more for a professional paintbox.

While Deluxe Paint once was the killer application of the Amiga, these days I mostly prefer Personal Paint which you can download from the Aminet.

Personal Paint is an excellent 2D paint package which lets you paint images in traditional techniques such as those used before Photoshop became a graphics editing package more than a photo editing tool.

As Personal Paint supports GIF and JPG it is very easy to create images and graphics for modern applications such as the webb and since Personal Paint is a classic paint package it is extremely efficient to create pixel graphics in it.

I am going to give you an example, the secret with paint packages such as Personal Paint and Deluxe Paint is that you can cut out parts of the images and use it as a brush, with key shortcuts you can rotate the brush and reuse it on the image.

While these kinds of paint packages lacks layers and other advanced functionality of Photoshop I myself find it much easier to do 1×1 pixel work in a traditional paint package than with Photoshop.

I actually tried Personal Paint on my A2000 with a 030 CPU and a Picasso 2 graphics card and it was extremely slow in 1024×768. It works perfectly in emulated environments and it is a dream to work with under WinUAE, however I am going to give it a shot on my 060/PPC systems in the future to since WinUAE sometimes can behave unstable.
