There are loads of module players for the Amiga but it is not very hard to pick out the really good ones.
Which of those two out of the three best module players who are the best is going to be seen on my blog in the future but as you might have guessed it by the title of this post one of those is Hippo Player.
While there are other module players that are much more advanced and can play more module formats, still Hippo Player is fast, stable and may I say it offers a relatively good GUI from a usability point of view (or maybe I am just so used to installing and configuring Hippo Player?).
Hippo Player runs on a stock A500 and even runs on my A4000 PPC in AmigaOS 4.0 (although it is slightly unstable in that environment). I particularly like that it can be set up to look good both in low resolution native Amiga displays and in high resolution modes when running a graphics card.
Development of this fine module player has since year 2000 come to a stop but as it is right now it is a relatively complete package, I would love to be able to play some more exotic module formats with Hippo Player, but as I said above, there are three good module players on the Amiga and Hippo Player is just one of them.
You may find Hippo Player on Aminet.
I also suggest that you take a look inside the Support drawer to find some cool graphic scopes you can run while listening to modules. Be sure to set the drawer to “show all” because some of the scopes have not got an icon. There are also some third party visual add ons on Aminet, but I can not seem to find them all again, I may need to go through my DVD archives of BBS files to find them.
Also, the author of Hippo Player has made a very addictive 2-4 player shoot’em’up game called Tankkk, which is available on Aminet.
I have had a lot of fun with that game, and if my memory is correct it multitasks nicely with Workbench.

Hippo is still my favorite mod player. Controls and playlist in one window, highly configurable, there isnt anything better imo

Yep it is great! To bad it is not developed anymore, I would love to have a more stable “classic” module player in OS4.

Decided to google “HippoPlayer”, and found this! Thanks for the kind words. Brings back some nice memories. Greetings to all Hippo users
Wow, nice to get a comment from the author of HippoPlayer!
Thanks for stopping by, and if you perhaps sometime in the future get the inspiration again, I think the Amiga community would not say no to an updated Hippoplayer!
